International Women’s Day 2021

March 8, 2021

March 8, 2021 is International Women’s Day. As with many celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic, International Women’s Day will look different this year than previous years. This day is an important day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality, and fundraise for female-focused charities among other ways to participate.

The International 2021 theme is “Choose to Challenge”, because a challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. The Status of Women Canada has instituted the theme “Feminist Recovery” in Canada to represent a pledge to advance gender equality and support an inclusive recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted women and girls. Layoffs, lack of child care, increased unpaid work, and the rise of domestic violence women have experienced during the pandemic has exacerbated issues of gender inequality all over the world. Show your support by posting how you are committed to the missions of International Women’s Day on social media, using the hashtags, #IWD2021, #ChoosetoChallenge, and #FeministRecovery.
